how does it sound?

July 8, 2011 (Kuala Lumpur - Melaka)

Thanks to the guy at the bus station, we got information about the ticket to Melaka so we could continue our travel. The bus to Melaka left at 9 o’clock, and the journey took about 2 hours. I guess we made the right decision not to pop up in KL because it’s faster to get to Melaka Sentral from the airport. Before mid-day, we’re already at the heart of Melaka’s historical place.

As soon as we arrived, we walked around to search for food. I didn’t really feel hungry that time, but everyone else was craving for meal…or maybe for a place to put the rucksacks down and rest for awhile. Anyway, we found a place to eat and we ordered pork! (mumpung…) We felt that we were rich after having 50 ringgits extra from the unused Bahts from Thailand, so we didn’t think about the price anymore when we’re about to have a big meal. Cool!

It was about 12.30 when we finished eating and were wondering about the check in. We knew that check in was on 2pm, but we were expecting for a luggage storage. And then we came to the guest house and ringed the bell. Nobody responded, so we moved to find a place nearby to relax. There was only one cozy place that could protect our skin from the sun and our backs from the ‘karung beras’. It was a café, decorated as if it were in a Volkswagen’s combi van.

After 2.00, we could really check in at Jalan-Jalan Guest House. Lee, a guest for a long term staying checked us in. Sam, the owner (or manager), was not there, but Lee explained many things to us perfectly. He also helped us with the bicycles when we wanted to rent them. Handy and friendly 

Bicycling around Melaka in the afternoon was both good and tiring at the same time. We saw many historical buildings or spaces, also many tourists from our own country. And later we saw many pictures of fruits and then…let’s have some juices! We’re rich, weren’t we? Hahaha. After feeling tired, we returned to the guesthouse and Sam was there. That time was our formal check in. We paid everything we should have had paid before. Sam said there would be a night market, so we took a bath and got ready to find another meal at the market.

That was the fifth time of the day we sat together on one table for putting something into our mouth. I think we spent almost 100 ringgits for food and drinks that day while beds for 3 persons were only 42. We were just so cool! Hahaha! Oh, and at night, we just found out that a violinist we saw at the night market stayed at the same dorm with us. The time we came back to the house, he was playing at the sitting area. Lovely! And after that, more and more people came joining and we had some conversation for about one hour. But this is the funny thing. We didn’t know each other’s name at all. So there’s Mr. Cendol who ate cendol but didn’t know how to say it, Mr. True Traveler who was curious about Sumatra and Belitung, Mr. Nerd who looked like Harry Potter, Ms. India who was so American, Ms. French who was busy with the computer, and Mr. We Don’t Know who could also speak French. I personally enjoyed that nameless conversation, and I think Tika also enjoyed voluntarily washing all the cups on the table. Hehehehe…
